Fort Armistead was a former military fort located in Baltimore, Maryland. It was originally constructed in 1896 and was named after Major George Armistead, the commander of Fort McHenry during the War of 1812.
The fort was used primarily for coastal defense and served as a training facility for soldiers during World War I and World War II. It was also used as a communications center and was equipped with searchlights and artillery batteries to defend the Baltimore harbor.
After World War II, Fort Armistead was decommissioned and eventually turned over to the city of Baltimore. The site is now a public park and recreational area known as Fort Armistead Park.
Visitors to the park can explore the historic remains of the fort, including bunkers, gun emplacements, and underground tunnels. The park offers hiking trails, picnic areas, and fishing opportunities along the Patapsco River.
